That’s why it’s befitting on Global Clinical Engineering Day to give our dedicated team in the Clinical Engineering department a special shout out.
Clinical Engineering became a DHB service in November 2020 after being contracted for several years.
The team of four ensures all medical devices used at MidCentral and Whanganui DHB facilities are tested on arrival, maintained, faults are corrected and legal requirements are met for use on patients.
Each year they are responsible for maintaining 6000 devices, including everything from incubators and ventilators to patient monitors and beds.
Our engineers also provide technical expertise to the DHB for tender reviews and asset management, and are responsible for recalls and hazard management for medical devices.
The team has been instrumental throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by testing equipment received by the Ministry of Health and working with clinical staff to distribute.
